THE SYNTHESIZER

The synthesizer screen provides faders for synthesis parameters and a configuration part where different sound modes and a modulation path can be set.

Configuration

The top row shows the synthesizer configuration. Each setting has two or three possible states, indicated by two or three bars below. Tapping on the bars or the setting name cycles through the possible states. Settings are as follows:

- basic sound type
RECT: a filtered rectangular wave
FM: simple FM synthesis from sine waves
NOISE: linear feedback shift register (LFSR) noise generator

- envelope type
d: simple decay-envelope
a/d: the envelope value is used for attack and decay

- polyphony / noise type
When RECT or FM is selected, this switches between single voice and two-voice polyphony. Polyphony means that successive notes can overlap.
When NOISE sound type is selected, this switches between 16-bit (white noise) and 8-bit LFSR (more tonal).

- mono/stereo
A spatial effect.

- LFO shape
The LFO can act as a second envelope running upwards or downwards or as as free-running LFO (can be reset with a "p" note in the sequencer).

- LFO target
The LFO / envelope can modulate pitch, brightness or timbre.

Fader Parameters

vol:
Channel volume.

env:
Sound length. Can be configured as ascending + descending (a/d) or descending only (d) envelope.

br:
"Brightness". In RECT mode, this refers to the filter cutoff, in FM mode, br controls the modulation amplitude.

tmb:
"Timbre". Controls the pulse width for RECT and the modulator frequency for FM. In NOISE mode, the timbre is changed by a simple phaser effect.

mod:
Amplitude of the LFO.

fq:
Frequency of the LFO. When LFO is configured as envelope (up, down), this controls the envelope length.

The parameter marked with a "+" (env by default) can also be controlled stepwise in the sequencer. The values in the sequencer are added to the fader value. To select a different parameter for use in the sequencer, triple-tap the parameter name. ("vol" cannot be selected because volume can be edited in the sequencer separately by double-tapping the note)

To "grab" a fader, you can also touch the screen below the fader bar and thus see the bar while moving it.

Random Function

To randomise all synth parameters, tap on the very right side in the space below the fader box, swipe to the very left side and back to right again:

Channel Name, Instrument Type, Bank, Octave, Channel Selection

The bottom row shows the six channels a-f. A tap selects the channel to edit.

Above the channel row, the current channel's name is shown on the left side. Double-tap to edit the name.

Next to the name, there is the synth symbol: Double tap to switch to sampler mode.

The currently selected bank is shown as capital letter (A,B,C or D). Tap the letter to cycle through the two (or four) banks. If the selected bank is not the same as the one currently playing, the letter is shown in brackets. The currently playing pattern/bank can be selected in the sequencer.
Please note that it is not possible to assign an instrument to a specific pattern. Pattern 1-4 are bank A and share bank A's instrument.

On the right side, there is a number indicating the pattern octave. To change it, swipe up/down.
